Off the record

Dear Max,

In PR we always tell our clients that “nothing is off the record.” This is not only true in public relations but in life. If what you say has impact, make sure it has the right impact you want. And, if you think it doesn’t have impact, put yourself in another person’s shoes.

Gossip is rampant today and you don’t want to be involved in it. Trust me. You are never sure who you can trust. People have their own agendas at times and they may tell a seemingly private conversation to someone you didn’t intend to hear it.

Be clear to the point you are making. Know your stance but don’t be over critical of others. Words have a lasting impression on people; you’re always on the record.
